Be a good steward of your gifts. Protect your time. Feed your inner life. Avoid too much noise. Read good books, have good sentences in your ears. Be by yourself as often as you can. Walk. Take the phone off the hook. Work regular hours.  Jane Kenyon

These wise words from Keynon’s piece, Everything I Know about Writing Poetry, could apply to all of life it seems to me. Perhaps the sentence, “Take the phone off the hook,” dates this passage, but its relevance is ever more important. The poet Jane Kenyon certainly knew what she was talking about! In the midst of busy days I often find myself desiring a few quiet minutes alone. Meditation is the perfect way to find this island of peace. Even three minutes for some deep breaths, a body scan, and gentle focus on the breath or a sound can renew and refresh you for whatever work you call your own.
