I’ll Meet You There

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing
there is a field. I will meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.

By: Rumi

There’s much going on in our country that is about division, about us vs them–with an ever-changing definition of “them.”  It seems to me that the more we posture about differences or declare our positions the right ones, the more we court cruelty. Is that really the way we want to spend our time here? Richard Rohr, with his usual wisdom, says, ” It is hardly an exaggeration to say that “us-and-them” seeing, and the dualistic thinking that results, is the foundation of almost all discontent and violence in the world.” Hopefully we are not at a point at which we wouldn’t even recognize Rumi’s field if we were standing in it! Here’s to continually looking for the third way.
